Too often this statement is just passed by because of other ridiculous things she is saying.Lorihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03745093861625528762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-737264280943399563.post-22681123061293124882011-09-02T17:03:32.030+01:002011-09-02T17:03:32.030+01:00But what about cost? "If the number of abortions falls, that should save money so it shouldn't cost more."

Wait, what? Does she seriously think that an abortion costs the state more than giving birth? And, you know, small things like the tax credits, child benefits, education costs, housing, medical care etc that then follow as the state supports them through their first 16 years of life?

This is *exactly* the sort of glib answer that is Dorries' stock in trade. The sort of thing that seems to make some sense until you've thought about it for more than about .5 seconds. A sensible question, handwaved away with an answer that's had zero thought invested in it.

Fascinating reading this piece having read Dorries' hack respsonse first.Ushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03921355367021784735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-737264280943399563.post-82836589159597719162011-09-02T15:41:37.916+01:002011-09-02T15:41:37.916+01:00"It's better to teach them not to have un..."It's better to teach them not to have unprotected sex. That's why I wanted them to learn about abstinence" is such a ridiculous statement. It's like saying children shouldn't ride bicycles without a helmet, so let's teach them about walking.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08187238468370381052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-737264280943399563.post-84002982502041446042011-09-02T14:44:36.690+01:002011-09-02T14:44:36.690+01:00Quite a reasonable, tempered article.
